“My name is Benjamin Connell, an archaeological illustrator and artist trained in architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art and at Queen’s University Belfast. I run Néul Studio, my independent studio specialising in narrative-driven archaeological illustration and visualisation. My practice centres on people, place, memory and the quiet emotional truths embedded in our built and ancestral environments.”
Benjamin graduated with a Distinction in Architecture from the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art, where he was awarded the Bram Stoker Medal acknowledging the most imaginative work across the art school. Benjamin is a Member of the Society of Architectural Illustration, the world’s oldest and most prestigious architectural illustration organisation.
Benjamin is an avid traveller and history enthusiast and was a 2018 recipient of the John Kinross Scholarship from The Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture, commissioned to draw and produce artwork inspired by an extended stay in Florence. His work centred around the writings of Dante Alighieri and resides in the permanent archive of the RSA in Edinburgh. He has exhibited work internationally, from the Venice Biennale to Art Basel Miami. In 2025 Benji was shortlisted by the RIBA Journal as a Rising Star, for championing the power of hand-drawing with his distinctive and engaging architectural illustrations.
